QCMC 2024 is happy to award Hoi-Kwong Lo the International Quantum Award 2024 for his foundational role in establishing the security of quantum cryptography and his subsequent work to close the existing gap between the theory and practice of quantum key distribution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong style=\"color: #000080\">(2) <a href=\"https:\/\/iiis.tsinghua.edu.cn\/en\/luming\/\" style=\"color: #000080\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prof. Luming Duan, Institute for Interdisciplinary &nbsp;Sciences, Tsinghua University:<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-2 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:250px\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized has-custom-border is-style-rounded\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"183\" height=\"215\" src=\"https:\/\/quantum.iitm.ac.in\/qcmc24\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/LumingDuan.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-754\" style=\"border-width:2px;width:250px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Prof. Luming Duan<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color\" style=\"font-size:22px; text-align: justify;\">Luming Duan has made important contributions to the fields of quantum communication and quantum computation, including the well known Duan-Lukin-Cirac-Zoller (DLCZ) protocol for long-distance quantum communication as well as the Duan-Kimble scheme for scalable optical quantum computing. Most recently, he has built one of the largest trapped-ion simulators using 300 ions in a novel 2D ion-crystal in a Paul trap. QCMC 2024 is happy to award Luming Duan the International Quantum Award 2024 for his enormous contributions to the field of quantum information processing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-link-color\" style=\"font-size:24px\"><strong style=\"color: #000080\">(3) <a style=\"color: #000080\" href=\"https:\/\/chaos.if.uj.edu.pl\/~karol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Karol \u017byczkowski, Jagiellonian University (Cracow) and Polish Academy of Science (Warsaw):<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-3 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:250px\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized has-custom-border is-style-rounded\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/quantum.iitm.ac.in\/qcmc24\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/karolmal3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-757\" style=\"border-width:2px;object-fit:cover;width:250px;height:325px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/quantum.iitm.ac.in\/qcmc24\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/karolmal3.jpg 225w, https:\/\/quantum.iitm.ac.in\/qcmc24\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/karolmal3-216x300.jpg 216w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Prof. Karol \u017byczkowski<\/mark><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color\" style=\"font-size:22px; text-align: justify;\">Karol \u017byczkowski has made fundamental contributions to the theory of quantum entanglement, from introducing the well known entanglement measure called \u201cNegativity\u201d in a seminal paper in 1998 to more recent works on constructing absolutely maximally entangled states. He has also worked on pioneering and novel aspects of random matrix theory with applications to quantum information theory.
